Four born-again bishops have been consecrated to fill leadership vacancies in Uganda’s Busoga Sub-region. The consecration ceremony, presided over by Apostle Dr Joseph Sserwadda, leader of Born Again Churches in Uganda, marked the appointment of bishops to key districts in the Busoga Sub-region.

The newly consecrated bishops and their respective districts are Paul Wandera (Jinja District), Geoffrey Waako (Jinja City), Philemon Wafula (Buyende District), and Andrew Wambi (Bugweri District). Additionally, four auxiliaries were consecrated to serve as deputies, namely Bishops Amos Ojobi (Bugweri), Sanon Mwidu (Buyende), Edward Magumba (Jinja City), and Paul Muwangala (Jinja District).

This development ensures that all twelve districts within the Busoga Sub-region, including Jinja City, now have dedicated bishops overseeing the spiritual affairs of their communities.

During the consecration, Apostle Joseph Sserwadda expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the recognition and support of the Born Again Faith in Uganda. He recalled the President’s endorsement in 2006, acknowledging the Born Again Faith and discouraging its registration as an NGO. Apostle Sserwadda credited the President for the growth and establishment of structures within the Born Again community, raising its standards to the Inter Religious Council, where President Museveni currently serves as the co-chairperson.

Bishop Andrew Lugolobi, General Secretary of the Born Again Faith in Uganda, highlighted the equivalence of their denomination with other major religious groups in the country.

State Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Ms Persis Namuganza, conveyed the President’s happiness with the Born Again faith, emphasizing their role in mobilizing followers towards productive work.

In a related event in Kamuli District, President Museveni, through First Deputy Prime Minister Ms Rebecca Kadaga, challenged churches to contribute to mindset change and support government programs. Ms Kadaga assured the Born Again community of government support, addressing promises such as transport and tractors for model farming.

The newly appointed overseer for Busoga Sub-region, Bishop Edward Munene, pledged to spread the gospel through various initiatives, including door-to-door crusades, outreaches, missionary training, and efforts to address challenges within the Church.
