President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged Shs200 million towards the construction of the Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters and Health Center IV. His contribution came during a fundraising event held in Mbirizi, Lwengo Town Council on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
Expressing his commitment to the project, President Museveni emphasized the importance of community participation and stable incomes for successful fundraising efforts. He noted that while individual contributions matter, sustainable development requires collective involvement and financial stability across households.
The President’s gesture underscores his support for initiatives aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and administrative facilities within communities. His willingness to contribute reflects a broader commitment to promoting social and economic development in Uganda.
President Museveni also authorized the involvement of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade in the construction project, following a request from Lwengo District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Cissy Namujju. This collaboration highlights the government’s multi-sectoral approach to addressing community needs.
During the event, President Museveni commended the progress made by the Muslim community in Lwengo and reiterated the importance of embracing wealth creation initiatives. He emphasized the need for all households to engage in income-generating activities to achieve sustainable socio-economic transformation.
The President highlighted the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a key strategy for promoting economic empowerment at the grassroots level. He urged NRM leaders to actively engage communities in implementing PDM initiatives, emphasizing the importance of participation and accountability.
In addition to agriculture-based projects, President Museveni emphasized the importance of supporting small-scale enterprises through programs like Emyooga. These initiatives aim to diversify income sources and create opportunities for entrepreneurship and skill development.
President Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to free education for all children in government schools, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to ensure access to quality education. He called for the eradication of fees in government schools to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all students.
