The Consulate General of the Republic of Uganda in Mombasa has teamed up with key tourism stakeholders from Uganda and the Kenyan Coast to orchestrate the Uganda Festival 2024.

Established in 2015, the Consulate General of Uganda in Mombasa serves to safeguard Uganda’s interests in the Kenyan Coast region, particularly centered around the vital hub of Mombasa Port. Its jurisdiction encompasses the six Coastal Counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, and Taita Taveta.

Set to unfold from April 17 to 21, 2024, the festival carries the theme ‘leveraging culture and golf to promote tourism, trade, and investment between Uganda and Kenya Coast,’ promising a vibrant convergence of cultural festivities and sporting excellence.

At its core, the festival aims to spotlight Uganda’s unique offerings to a wider audience, encompassing corporate entities in the coastal region of Kenya, alongside local and international tourists, including the youth demographic frequenting the Kenyan Coast.

The deliberate emphasis on harnessing both the rich cultural tapestry and the allure of golf serves to deepen the bonds between Uganda and the Kenyan Coast, fostering greater mutual understanding and collaboration.

Addressing the press at their Nyali office, Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, Consul General of Uganda to Mombasa, reaffirmed that the partnership’s inception stems from Kenya being the primary source market for tourists visiting Uganda.

“We initiated an agri-business symposium in 2021, recognizing the significant trade ties between our nations. Kenya stands as our largest market for dairy and dairy products,” Mukumbya remarked, acknowledging the existing challenges such as tariff and non-tariff barriers that necessitated a dedicated platform for constructive dialogue among stakeholders.

Mohammed Osman, the County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Culture, and Trade in Mombasa, assured that the county is fully geared up for the impending festival. To streamline preparations, a specialized Tourism Council has been formed, slated for inauguration on April 4th. This council will oversee all facets of the festival’s organization, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of the event.

Reiterating Mombasa’s readiness for the festival, Mohammed Osman emphasized its strategic importance as a signature event in the city’s calendar, promising sustained efforts to maximize its economic benefits.
