Speaker of Parliament Anita Among recently convened a meeting with the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Uganda, Sasayama Takuya, where they delved into various topics, particularly emphasizing the need to deepen bilateral cooperation, with a specific focus on technology and infrastructure.
During the meeting, Among expressed appreciation for Japan’s longstanding commitment to development cooperation, spanning nearly six decades, which she noted has yielded tangible benefits and enhanced livelihoods within Uganda.
She highlighted the visible impact of Japanese assistance in infrastructural projects, such as the impressive Nile Bridge, as well as numerous road construction initiatives across the country.
Looking ahead, Among expressed a desire to further strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, technology exchange, and education, with a particular emphasis on equipping the youth with necessary skills for a competitive future.
Parliament recently commended the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its significant contributions to various sectors in Uganda, including health, education, and infrastructure.
Ambassador Sasayama reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and proposed linking the Upper and Lower Chambers of the Japanese Parliament with the Parliament of Uganda, fostering closer ties between the two nations.
Acknowledging Uganda’s strategic importance in the region, Ambassador Sasayama emphasized Japan’s intent to invest in the youth, recognizing them as pivotal for the nation’s future development.
Among expressed interest in Japanese involvement in the reconstruction of the Karuma Bridge, highlighting the success of previous collaborations, particularly in the construction of the Nile Bridge.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship between Uganda and Japan, emphasizing its significance for mutual development and prosperity.
