Uganda Airlines has recently acquired a new aircraft from Global Airlines under a wet-lease arrangement, aimed at bolstering its operational capacity. The Airbus A320, with a seating capacity of 160 passengers, joins the airline’s existing fleet of six aircraft for a duration of six months. This new addition boasts a two-class cabin layout, comprising 12 business class seats and 138 economy class seats.

The announcement of this acquisition was made by Uganda Airlines on Thursday, signaling a strategic move to enhance its service offerings and meet the growing demand for air travel in the region. Through its official communication channels, including social media platforms like Twitter, Uganda Airlines extended a warm welcome to passengers aboard the newly acquired Airbus A320.

In a wet-lease agreement, the lessor airline provides the aircraft “ready to use,” inclusive of crew, maintenance, and insurance. This arrangement allows Uganda Airlines to swiftly integrate the new aircraft into its operations without the logistical challenges associated with acquiring and managing additional resources independently.

Uganda Airlines, established in 2019, serves as the nation’s flagship carrier for both passenger and cargo transportation. With a vision to become a world-class airline exceeding customer expectations, the airline is committed to delivering high-quality service, enhancing global connectivity, and upholding standards of excellence in the aviation industry.

Jennifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, emphasized the strategic significance of the new aircraft during a media briefing in March. She highlighted that the Airbus A320 would enable the airline to address operational challenges, particularly on routes like Johannesburg, where weight restrictions were previously encountered with smaller aircraft. The introduction of the Airbus A320 is expected to facilitate route expansions and contribute to an increase in passenger numbers, further solidifying Uganda Airlines’ position in the aviation market.
