Traders in Kampala to Close Businesses in Protest Over President Museveni’s Lack of Communication
Kampala traders have announced that they will shut down their businesses starting Wednesday in protest over President Yoweri Museveni’s failure to address their concerns in a respectful manner. The decision comes after Museveni canceled a scheduled meeting with the traders for the second time.
Isa Ssekitto, the spokesperson for the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), made this announcement in response to the latest cancellation by Museveni, which was set for July 31. The traders are voicing their dissatisfaction with the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) and high tax rates that they claim are impacting their businesses negatively.
The traders are also expressing frustration with Kampala’s Minister Minsa Kabanda, who they believe has not adequately addressed their grievances. The ongoing issues have led to heightened tensions between the business community and government officials, with the traders demanding a dignified and direct dialogue with the president.
The closure of businesses is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, reflecting the seriousness of the traders’ discontent. This action underscores the growing frustration among business owners regarding fiscal policies and governmental communication.
This is a developing story.
