The National Unity Platform leader Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, a vocal critic of President Museveni, has praised Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for its excellent services. This praise comes after he discreetly visited the facility to check on Jolly Mugisha, the party’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Accompanied by an entourage of eight, Bobi Wine was impressed by the hospital’s professionalism and dedication to patient care. He expressed gratitude to the medical team for stabilizing Mugisha’s condition and wished her a speedy recovery.

Halson Kagure, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed Bobi Wine’s visit, stating that he had the right to check on his patient like any other caretaker. Kagure praised Bobi Wine for his discipline, noting that he did not cause any disruption.

Bobi Wine later shared a group photo on social media, praising the hospital’s team for working tirelessly to save Mugisha’s life. “Thankfully, the doctors have worked very hard to stabilize her condition, and we are very delighted to see her make great improvement. Join us in praying for her quick and full recovery,” he said. Sources close to him mentioned that he was impressed by the doctors’ professionalism despite the challenges faced by the hospital.

In a phone interview, Kagure highlighted that the hospital offers comprehensive, high-quality services with a patient-centered approach. Bobi Wine’s followers on social media applauded him for acknowledging the hospital’s efforts and wished Mugisha a swift recovery.

Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is a tertiary health facility that provides over forty specialized services, attracting many referrals from other regional referral hospitals in the region and neighboring countries.

However, local politicians have pointed out that the hospital operates on a limited budget relative to the population it serves. They also speculate that the government’s plans to elevate it to a national referral facility might be a political maneuver.
