London (UK) – Uganda High Commission in London hosted the 62nd Independence day celebrations on October 9, 2024, in London.
The celebrations, under the theme “A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify our Destiny” brought together over 400 participants including officials from UK Government, Uganda diaspora members, friends of Uganda and the Diplomatic Corps.
During the event, members reflected on the Uganda’s continuous advancement on its socio-economic transformation journey.
On her part, Uganda’s High Commissioner to UK also accredited to Ireland, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani, highlighted the significant achievements made under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM Government.
She stressed the importance of strengthening mutually beneficial commercial and economic ties between Uganda and United Kingdom.
Additionally, she rallied the Ugandans in the Diaspora to be patriotic; and take advantage of the available investment opportunities in Uganda, especially in agriculture and agro-processing (value addition), infrastructure, , tourism, oil and gas, ICT, pharmaceuticals and development of Industrial parks to contribute toward national development.
The Independence celebration was also graced by Baroness Virginia from the UK Parliament, and Stanley Johnson, father to former UK Premier, thus exhibiting the good cordial relationship between the UK and Uganda.
Among the Uganda Diaspora community was THET Diaspora Engagement Advisor, and Uganda UK Health Alliance lead person, Moses Mulimira, who reckoned Uganda’s rich heritage, and thanked the High Commissioner for organising a wonderful, empowering, and inspiring celebration.
