The Kampala Metropolitan Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 12 year old Mukisa Hannah Nantume, who has been missing since September 22, 2024. She disappeared from Busujja New Friends Circle Primary School, where she was a boarding student.

Hannah is the daughter of Tendo Aisha and Kabanda Sam. Her mother recently returned her to school for the start of the third term. Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that Hannah was last seen at the school and that investigators from Kakiri Police Station have been working on the case.

Officers have visited the school, documented the scene, and gathered statements from witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation. They are currently working to identify any suspects connected to Hannah’s disappearance.

Police have released a description of the missing girl to assist in the search.

  • Name: Mukisa Hannah Nantume
  • Age: 12
  • Last seen: September 22, 2024, at Busujja New Friends Circle Primary School

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Hannah’s whereabouts to contact Kakiri Police Station or the Regional Police Commander of Kawempe. “Let us work together to ensure her safe return,” Onyango said.

The Child and Family Protection Unit of the police has expressed concern over the rising number of cases involving missing children. Caroline Kushemererwa, head of this unit in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, noted that many missing girls come from different regions of the country and are often lured to work as maids.

Kushemererwa stated that the majority of these cases involve girls aged between nine and 15. Although the specifics of each case vary, the police typically receive over ten reports of missing children each week.

Some of the girls are reportedly misled by relatives who promise them employment in domestic work. Upon arriving at their destinations, many find the work difficult and run away, ending up on the streets of Kampala where they may be picked up and taken to the police.

Kushemererwa has indicated that, going forward, the police may charge parents with negligence when they are reunited with their children.
