Joy Ruth Aceng, former Uganda’s Ambassador to Canada, has been given a new job as the head of the Ugandan Mission in The Bahamas.

Earlier this year, in August, the Canadian government decided to send her packing after claims that she didn’t follow the rules of diplomacy.

She was labeled “persona non grata,” which means she was no longer welcome, after being accused of misconduct.

The trouble began when she was caught on camera arguing with a group of protesters from the National Unity Platform (NUP).

These protesters, dressed in yellow, the color of Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), were shouting slogans against the Ugandan government, saying it violated human rights.

According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, diplomats are like messengers who should only look out for their country’s interests, build friendships, and keep the peace. They are not supposed to get involved in the politics of the countries they serve in.

As the saying goes, Ambassador Aceng will need to keep her focus on her new role in The Bahamas and stay clear of any more trouble
