(Kampala) – A car accident occurred at the Namboole flyover on the Kireka-Bweyogerere road this morning, resulting in injuries for three people and one vehicle bursting into flames. The incident, which took place around 6:30 AM, involved a Nissan Fuga and a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi, identified by their registration numbers UBG 615A and UAX 036F, respectively.
Police and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, managing traffic as emergency teams responded. Preliminary investigations indicate that the Nissan Fuga, traveling from Bweyogerere toward Kireka, collided head-on with the Toyota Hiace, which was coming from the opposite direction. Following the impact, the Nissan caught fire and was burnt down to its frames.
Details of the Incident | Information |
---|---|
Location | Namboole flyover on Kireka-Bweyogerere road |
Time | Around 6:30 AM |
Injuries | Three (two drivers and one passenger) |
Weather Conditions | Wet, foggy, with heavy rain |
Vehicles Involved | Nissan Fuga (UBG 615A) and Toyota Hiace (UAX 036F) |
The wet and foggy weather played a factor in the incident, as rain pounded Kampala and other parts of the country this morning, making roads slippery and visibility challenging. The Nissan Fuga was completely burnt, leaving only its frames, while the Toyota Hiace sustained less visible damage.
Emergency responders took both drivers and a passenger to local hospitals for treatment. The Toyota Hiace driver was transported to Gwatilo Hospital, while the driver of the Nissan Fuga was admitted to Nakasero Hospital. The identity of the passenger who was injured remains unconfirmed, as police are still gathering further information.
SP Michael Kananura, spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety, urged motorists to be cautious, especially in adverse weather conditions. “Due to heavy rainfall and limited visibility, we urge motorists to prioritize road safety,” Kananura said. He advised drivers to park and wait if visibility becomes poor to avoid similar accidents.
Police have since cleared the area, towing both the Nissan Fuga and Toyota Hiace to the Bweyogerere Police Station for further inspection as investigations continue. Authorities have advised drivers to exercise heightened caution in the ongoing rainy season, as slippery roads and poor visibility have led to an increase in road incidents. Further updates will be provided as more information on the accident emerges.
