Mbonye Alex has been declared the winner of the 8th Guild Elections at Metropolitan International University, securing 325 votes and winning by a narrow margin of just 10 votes. His closest competitor, Lawrence Ariyo, garnered 315 votes, while Masereka Ronald came in third with 88 votes. The election also recorded 19 invalid votes.

The voting took place yesterday at the university grounds in Kisoro Municipality, and the results were officially announced at 7:30 PM in the university’s main hall by Joshua Atuhaire, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Atuhaire emphasized that the elections were peaceful, free, and fair. He urged Mbonye to work collaboratively with his fellow candidates to foster democracy and uphold the rule of law within the university. Atuhaire remarked, “Mbonye won with only a difference of 10 votes, meaning the race was a tight one. The elections were free and fair, with security and peace in place, and no cases of vote-rigging were registered. Both the winner and the losers should unite, collaborate, and share ideas to create effective leadership within the university.”

Meanwhile, Mbonye Alex, the Guild President-elect, expressed his gratitude and acknowledged his supporters for rallying behind his slogan, “Action speaks louder than words.” Mbonye stated, “The elections were not easy for me. At first, I even considered withdrawing from the race, but I remained patient, and now I have been declared the winner. My goal is to unite MIU, and as I speak, I plan to appoint my opponents to my cabinet as a way of embracing democracy and ensuring my term of service is inclusive.”

Mbonye promised to fulfill all the promises he made during his campaign, including improving student welfare and rights, enhancing sports programs for both girls and boys, and promoting gender equality.

Mbonye added, “I am a leader of action, and remember, actions speak louder than words. All my promises will be fulfilled, even in a short period of time, because the majority have trusted and voted for me. Why should I disappoint them? I may not be able to reach everyone who voted for me, but I truly appreciate what you did for me, and you will see the results.”
