Kapchorwa, Uganda – The Kapchorwa District administration, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has launched a large-scale Yellow Fever vaccination campaign aimed at protecting residents from the deadly mosquito-borne disease.

The seven-day exercise, which began on Thursday at Kapchorwa Secondary School, targets approximately 119,000 people across the district.

Kapchorwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Mr. Sakajja Martin, officially flagged off the vaccination drive, urging full community participation. “This vaccination is our best defense against Yellow Fever, and I call upon every eligible person in Kapchorwa to take advantage of this free service,” he said during the launch ceremony.

The event was attended by district health officials, security personnel, education representatives, and medical teams who will oversee the vaccination process.

Health authorities emphasized that the vaccine is safe and effective, having been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Uganda’s Ministry of Health.

Mobile vaccination teams will be stationed at health centers, schools, and other designated points across the district to ensure easy access for all residents.

The campaign will run until Sunday, April 13, with health workers prepared to administer vaccines to all eligible individuals aged nine months and above.

Yellow Fever, which is transmitted through mosquito bites, can cause severe symptoms including high fever, jaundice, and internal bleeding. Vaccination remains the most reliable preventive measure against the disease.

Health officials have advised residents to carry identification where possible and to report any side effects to medical personnel immediately.

The district leadership has pledged full support to ensure the success of the vaccination exercise, which aligns with Uganda’s broader public health strategy to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases.
