The Member of Parliament for Kole North, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, who was elected as an independent, has officially joined the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
This development was announced during a meeting with Kole District NRM leaders at their offices in Aboke.
In his remarks, Dr. Opio Acuti — who also serves as the Secretary General of the Lango Parliamentary Group and Vice Chairperson of the Health Committee of Parliament — highlighted that numerous developments had taken place in Lango Sub-region and Kole North over the past three years, in collaboration with the NRM government.
He cited key infrastructure projects such as:
-
The reconstruction of the 66km Lira–Kole–Kamdini road
-
The construction of the 191km Rwenkunye–Apac–Lira–Puranga road
-
Ongoing works on the Akii Bua Stadium in preparation for AFCON
-
The livestock compensation program
In Kole North specifically, he noted achievements including:
-
Extension of electricity
-
Construction of new Health Centre IIIs
-
Upgrade of Ayara HCII to HCIII
-
Installation of five new telecommunication masts
“I have seen the NRM government as a fertile garden where the seeds of development I planted have grown and matured,” Dr. Opio Acuti stated. “However, in every garden, there are also weeds. We must uproot these weeds — especially corruption, which is hindering service delivery to our people.”
He emphasized that corruption cuts across all political parties, including opposition-led districts.
Dr. Opio Acuti concluded by revealing that he plans to contest in the upcoming NRM party primaries slated for July this year.
