The Ministry of Tourism is conducting training for hotel owners across Eastern Uganda in an effort to boost tourism in the region. The two-day training is being held at Mbale Courts View Hotel, starting today and ending tomorrow, Friday the 25th.
Participants include representatives from the Bamasaaba cultural institution, tourism officials, local government representatives, and hoteliers from various districts in Eastern Uganda.
While delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony, the Chief Administrative Officer of Mbale District, Mr. Luke Lokood, emphasized the relevance of tourism to the GDP of any nation.
Speaking at the same event, Commissioner Atugonza from the Ministry of Tourism’s Counter-Terrorism Unit highlighted the importance of working closely with the Tourism Police. She encouraged strong collaboration between the tourism sector and the hotel industry. Commissioner Atugonza was accompanied by the Sector Head of Counter-Terrorism for the Busoga, Bugisu, and Kapchorwa regions.
Speaking on behalf of all hotel owners, Mr. David Okello Kiro, General Manager of Courts View Hotel, urged fellow hoteliers to take the training seriously. He also encouraged them to promote Courts View Hotel as a welcoming home for local, national, and international guests. “We recently hosted kings from Nigeria and Ghana during the Imbalu ceremony. We are proud to be a big brand in the region,” he said.
Participants at the workshop included Steven Masiga, spokesperson for the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution; the Commissioner of Counter-Terrorism, Ministry of Tourism; Winnie Nambuya, Tourism Officer for Mbale City; and the Deputy Mayor of Mbale City, Hon. Kakai.
