Kisoro, Uganda — Drama and chaos erupted in Kasemisego Village, Southern Division, after Kisoro Municipality MP aspirant Emmanuel Maniraguha allegedly assaulted several elderly women during a community sensitization meeting organized by the Kasemisego Women Kwifatanya and Youth Development Groups.
The one-day meeting, held at the home of Gabriel Hatega, was focused on educating locals about piggery and poultry farming as sustainable strategies for poverty alleviation. The training followed the recent launch of a piggery project in the area, funded by fellow MP hopeful Dr. Leo Mfitimana, and was scheduled for official commissioning that day.
According to security personnel Elias Igiraneza and Sam Mbabazi, the incident occurred when Maniraguha arrived unannounced and allegedly demanded to enter the venue. Upon gaining access, he reportedly assaulted several elderly women and tore up official attendance sheets while participants were engaged in the training session.
The confrontation sparked outrage among local residents, who accused Maniraguha of disrupting a peaceful and developmental initiative meant to empower women and youth in the community.
In response, Dr. Leo Mfitimana strongly condemned the violence, urging all political contenders to promote unity and development rather than sowing division.
“This project is about empowerment, not politics. We must put the community first,” said Dr. Mfitimana.
In his defense, Maniraguha admitted to visiting the venue but denied any physical assault. He claimed the meeting was unauthorized and was being held on private property belonging to one of his relatives.
