Denmark Adious Beinomugisha: Former Guild President, Budding Politician & Voice of the Ankole Youth Dies After Tragic Fall

Mbarara, Uganda – August 7, 2025

The Mbarara political scene has been plunged into mourning following the untimely death of Denmark Adious Beinomugisha, former Guild President of Bishop Stuart University and a rising political figure in the Ankole sub-region. Beinomugisha, who had recently declared his intention to run for Member of Parliament for Mbarara City South, passed away early this morning at Mayanja Memorial Hospital.

According to reports, the 29-year-old politician sustained fatal injuries after falling from a staircase at Grand Holiday Hotel in Mbarara on the evening of August 6, 2025. Witnesses say Beinomugisha missed a step and tumbled down a flight of stairs. He was rushed to Mayanja Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Hospital sources confirmed that he suffered serious internal injuries and head trauma that led to his death despite emergency medical intervention.

A Promising Voice Silenced

Beinomugisha was widely regarded as a passionate youth leader and had quickly built a reputation as a vibrant voice for accountability, education reform, and youth empowerment in Ankole. During his time as Guild President at Bishop Stuart University (2021–2022), he championed student welfare and inclusivity, gaining popularity among both peers and local civic leaders.

More recently, he had aligned himself with the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a growing opposition political platform led by veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye. Beinomugisha was among the few young leaders in western Uganda openly pushing back against what he called the “political monopoly” of the ruling NRM in the sub-region.

Just three days before his death, Beinomugisha gave an interview to the Daily Monitor, where he expressed concern about the lack of opposition visibility in Ankole.

>“Our people want alternative voices. But these voices are often silenced or discouraged. We are building something new with courage and conviction,” he said.

Outpouring of Grief

News of Beinomugisha’s sudden death spread quickly, triggering an outpouring of grief from across the political divide. Youth leaders, political activists, and academics have described him as a courageous and visionary leader whose time was cut short.

Bishop Stuart University released a brief statement expressing shock and sadness at the passing of their former guild leader:

“Denmark served the university with honour and distinction. His leadership was marked by transparency, humility, and a deep love for justice.

Political figures from the Ankole region have also expressed their condolences. Mbarara City South MP Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama acknowledged Beinomugisha’s activism, saying,

“While we stood on different sides politically, Denmark was a disciplined and energetic young man with clear convictions. His death is a loss to all of us.”

Police Investigate Incident

Mbarara Central Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the fall. Preliminary reports suggest that there was no foul play, though authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel to confirm the details of the incident.

The hotel management also released a statement noting that they are cooperating fully with the police and expressed their condolences to the family and community.

Burial Arrangements Underway

Family members have confirmed that burial arrangements are ongoing and more information will be communicated to the public soon. Beinomugisha hails from Kashari North, Mbarara District, where he is expected to be laid to rest.

Final Thoughts

Denmark Adious Beinomugisha represented a new generation of leaders—bold, principled, and unafraid to challenge the status quo. His death not only leaves a deep void in the People’s Front for Freedom movement but also serves as a somber reminder of how fleeting life can be.

As Ankole and the rest of Uganda mourn his passing, the ideals he stood for—justice, youth representation, and change—will remain etched in the memory of those he inspired.
