As preparations continue for the upcoming second anniversary of the coronation of the Bamasaaba cultural leader, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Ankole Times shares behind-the-scenes information about the event that took place on October 4th, 2023.
In our first coronation series, we highlighted the significance of the cultural artifacts presented by the clan chairman, Hon. Difasi Wabuyi. Today, we focus on the message delivered by the Vice President on behalf of the President.
After making her personal remarks as the Vice President of Uganda at the Mutoto Cultural Grounds, Rt. Major Jesca Alupo requested an official letter from President Yoweri Museveni. She then read the letter verbatim to the cheering audience.
President Museveni congratulated the Bamasaaba people on the coronation of Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, noting his long-standing relationship with the Bamasaaba community. He encouraged the Umukuka to mobilize his people to embrace government programs.
The President also appealed to the Bamasaaba community to distance themselves from negative cultural practices such as cattle raiding and female genital mutilation. He urged them to promote their culture while taking advantage of government programs, which are provided free of charge.
In keeping with tradition, President Museveni concluded by wishing His Highness the Umukuka a long life and prosperity.
His Excellency, on behalf of the government, also contributed 100 million shillings toward the coronation ceremony. The event’s organizing chairman was Dr. Kosea Wambaka.
In upcoming installments to be serialized by the Ankole Times, we will highlight the notable Bamasaaba personalities who attended the 2023 coronation ceremony.
In his remarks, the Umukuka elect, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, pledged to mobilize his people around a development agenda and vowed to play a central role as the custodian of their culture. He thereafter hosted his people at a luncheon held at Mbale Resort Hotel.
