President Yoweri Museveni on Monday presided over the swearing-in of key judicial and oversight officials at Mbale, marking a new chapter in Uganda’s justice and anti-corruption institutions.
The appointees include Jane Frances Abodo as Principal Judge, Lino Anguzu as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Aisha Naluzze Batala as Inspector General of Government (IGG), and two Deputy IGGs, Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and Patricia Achan.
Jane Frances Abodo takes over as Principal Judge from Flavian Zeija. She supervises the High Court and magistrates’ courts across the country and is responsible for ensuring efficiency and access to justice. Abodo previously served as DPP and a High Court judge.
Lino Anguzu becomes the new DPP, succeeding Abodo in that office. The DPP is tasked with instituting and overseeing criminal prosecutions across Uganda, including serious crimes such as corruption and terrorism. Anguzu has extensive experience in prosecution, including handling international and high-profile cases.
Aisha Naluzze Batala was appointed IGG, replacing Beti Olive Namisango Kamya. The IGG leads the country’s anti-corruption agency, investigating abuse of office, enforcing the Leadership Code, and promoting integrity in public service. She is supported by Deputy IGGs Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and Patricia Achan.
President Museveni congratulated the appointees, highlighting that they are young, experienced, and appear untainted by corruption. “What we need is a state that works for the people. To have peace in a country, there must be full justice for the people,” he said.
The appointments are seen as a generational change aimed at strengthening Uganda’s justice system and anti-corruption institutions. Citizens expect the new officials to ensure timely justice, fight corruption, and restore public confidence in state institutions.
