President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has continued his campaign trail in the Rwenzori sub-region with stops in Bundibugyo and Ntoroko, outlining new commitments in infrastructure, healthcare and community welfare.

Addressing supporters in Bundibugyo, Museveni presented the NRM’s seven focus points and assured residents that government will prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of the Fort Portal–Bundibugyo–customs border road.

“Government works by prioritising what moves the country forward. That is why we first focused on science as the engine of our economic leap,” Museveni said, noting that the road upgrade will boost trade and regional connectivity.

Five New Health Centre IIIs

The President announced that government will establish Health Centre IIIs in Mabere, Mbatya, Ndugutu, Kagugu and Buganikere, reinforcing the NRM’s emphasis on preventive healthcare.

“Our emphasis is primary healthcare and prevention. I am 81 and have never been hospitalised because I believe in preventing disease,” he said.

“This is the same principle behind our immunisation programmes. I urge all families to participate actively.”

Highlighting Peace in a Volatile Region

Museveni later proceeded to Ntoroko with the NRM leadership, reminding residents that Uganda continues to enjoy peace despite bordering conflict-prone countries.

“Uganda has remained peaceful even while bordering conflict areas such as Congo, South Sudan and Somalia,” he said.

He noted that Uganda is currently hosting about 700,000 refugees from the DRC, a reflection of the stability built under the NRM.

Directives on Flood Victims and Semuliki Bridge

The President instructed his Principal Private Secretary to involve the Prime Minister and the Head of Public Service in giving an update on the 9,000 flood victims who are still stranded.

He also directed a review of the Semuliki Bridge budget to determine the exact funding required for completion.

Addressing PDM Challenges

On concerns from Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries over high operational costs, Museveni tasked Minister Raphael Magyezi and the PDM Secretariat to meet affected groups and resolve the challenge.

“I have directed the minister and the Secretariat to engage those affected and address the issue,” he said.
