Ugandans urge UK to stop funding Nexus Green projects over corruption

A section of Ugandans have raised a red flag, calling on the UK government to put a hold on funding projects implemented by Nexus Green in Uganda, citing abuse of funds meant for the projects.

Nexus Green is a British-funded company with branches spread across Uganda and Kenya.

Nexus Green is actively involved in promoting sustainable energy and water solutions in Uganda, particularly through solar-powered projects. Their activities, claimed to be focusing on providing solar-powered water supply and irrigation systems and solar street lighting, have not yielded anything; instead, several projects have been abandoned unfinished.

Last week, The Ankole Times reported how Nexus Green abandoned a project worth Shs 1.8 billion in Kalangala.

The contracts for mechanized water systems on both islands were awarded to Nexus Green, with funding from UK Export Finance. The plan aimed to install high-tech water systems across the islands.

On Nkose Island in Mazinga Sub-county, a Shs 1.8 billion project was intended to serve the busy landing sites of Katooke and Lugala. Another Shs 1 billion was allocated for a similar system on Nkese Island in Bubeke Sub-county, but months after the six-month completion period, the systems remain either incomplete or dysfunctional.

In the Teso region, a similar challenge has been registered, leaving locals wondering whether UK citizens are aware of how their taxes are being mishandled in Uganda.

The Ankole Times has learnt that the Nexus Green project is being supervised by top officials at the Ministry of Water and Environment, who should be held responsible for the installed Nexus Green projects.

According to leaders, Nexus Green is only well known for making huge signposts for their projects but nothing tangible.
