Otuke East MP Julius Acon Bua Sworn In, Pledges Anti-Corruption Drive and Joint Leadership with Local Leaders

OTUKE, UGANDA — The newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Otuke East, Julius Acon Bua, has pledged to intensify the fight against corruption and work closely with local leaders to improve service delivery in Otuke District and the wider Lango sub-region.

Acon was sworn in on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, following the conclusion of a legally recognised electoral process.

Shortly after taking the oath of office, Acon described corruption as a major obstacle to development, saying it continues to divert resources meant for essential services such as education, water, and infrastructure.

“Corruption is the enemy of our people. Every stolen coin is a borehole not drilled, a classroom not built, a life put at risk. I will not tire in demanding accountability,” he said.

Commitment to Joint Leadership

The legislator emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving meaningful development, pledging to work closely with Otuke District LC5 Chairperson Francis Abola, Woman MP Susan Jolly Abeja, as well as councillors, sub-county leaders, and community elders.

“I cannot serve Otuke East alone. I pledge to work hand-in-hand with Chairman Francis Abola, our Woman MP Susan Jolly Abeja, and all local leaders. Together, we shall ensure effective and transparent service delivery,” Acon stated.

He said such cooperation would help reduce political friction, eliminate duplication of efforts, and ensure government programs reach communities more efficiently.

Focus on Water, Education and Rural Development

Acon reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing community development initiatives, particularly borehole drilling to improve access to safe water in the constituency.

He noted that over 15 boreholes have been constructed in the area over the past two years under his support, benefiting remote communities such as Orum village.

“We started this journey with the people, and we shall not abandon it. Our focus remains on water access, education, and rural infrastructure,” he said.

Residents have previously credited his initiatives with helping reduce waterborne diseases, especially in areas that relied on unsafe water sources.

Education and Community Empowerment Projects

Before and during his political journey, Acon supported the rehabilitation of primary schools in Abur, Alango, and Orum, as well as the distribution of scholastic materials to more than 2,000 pupils.

He also facilitated a village savings and loan scheme benefiting over 500 women and youth groups across the constituency.

The MP urged leaders in the Lango sub-region to unite in demanding accountability from central government, stressing that corruption remains a major barrier to development.

“I will continue to lobby for development projects, but government must also play its role. Together with Chairman Abola and Madam Susan Abeja, we shall ensure every project serves the people,” he added.

Acon called on his constituents to remain patient and engaged, promising regular community outreach and transparency in his leadership.

His swearing-in marks the continuation of a political career largely shaped by grassroots mobilisation and a focus on service delivery, particularly in water access, education, and anti-corruption advocacy.
