Kampala | Uganda — The ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and illicit enrichment linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among have reportedly taken a dramatic new turn, with more than 30 current and former Members of Parliament allegedly summoned to appear at Kibuli CID Headquarters on 17th June.
According to information obtained by this publication, the widening investigations are now extending beyond Parliament leadership and are reportedly touching several influential figures in government institutions, including senior police officers, judicial officials, and other public servants.
Sources close to the investigations claim detectives are examining allegations that children and relatives of senior government officials were irregularly recruited into Parliament and allegedly received hefty salaries without following the official recruitment procedures.
Political observers say the investigations signal a major escalation in the government’s anti-corruption campaign following mounting pressure for accountability over alleged abuse of public resources during the tenure of the 11th Parliament.
The development comes shortly after Anita Among announced that she would not contest for the Speakership position in the 12th Parliament, while also pledging to cooperate with ongoing state investigations.
