Kampala: The Kampala Metropolitan Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Mobiliser, Hajjat Sophia Kenyanji, together with businessman Hajji Mohammad Ssebuufu, newly appointed PLU Secretary General Hajj Fadil Twalla and Federation of Uganda Social Media Influencers (FUSMI) CEO Edson Kirabila, have rallied behind a renewed grassroots engagement agenda aimed at strengthening citizen participation and national development.
The leaders say strong grassroots mobilisation remains the foundation upon which sustainable leadership, economic empowerment and community transformation are built.
Kenyanji made the remarks on Wednesday 24th June 2026 at Pine Card Bond offices at Lumumba Avenue also National Resistance Movement party mobilisers head quarter following the official handover ceremony of Hajj Fadil Twalla as the new PLU Secretary General, describing him as a leader with a vision capable of strengthening coordination and communication between leadership structures and communities.
She called upon PLU members to unite behind Twalla’s leadership and work collectively towards advancing development initiatives, youth empowerment and economic transformation.
“Leadership requires unity, commitment and constant engagement with the people. The strength of any organisation comes from the communities it serves,” Kenyanji said.
The engagements brought together political mobilisers, business leaders and digital communication experts, highlighting the growing importance of combining traditional grassroots outreach with modern communication platforms.
The delegation later visited the NRM mobilisation offices along Lumumba Avenue in Kampala, hosted by Hajji Mohammad Ssebuufu, the NRM Greater Kampala mobiliser and proprietor of Pine Car Bond.

Ssebuufu said Uganda’s development journey requires cooperation between political structures, the private sector and citizens.
He emphasised the importance of empowering young people through skills development, entrepreneurship and wealth creation programmes.
“The future of Uganda depends on creating opportunities for citizens, especially the youth, to participate in economic growth,” Ssebuufu said.
Also part of the engagement was Edson Kirabila, Director of the Federation of Uganda Social Media Influencers (FUSMI), who highlighted the increasing role of digital platforms in shaping public communication.
Kirabila said technology has transformed mobilisation by enabling leaders to connect with citizens faster and more effectively.
“Digital platforms are now powerful tools for information sharing, public engagement and promoting development conversations,” he said.
Political observers say the meeting reflected a changing era where politics, business and digital influence are increasingly working together to strengthen community participation.
An old African proverb says, “A tree stands strong because of its roots.”
In Uganda’s development journey, those roots remain the citizens whose participation determines the success of national programmes and policies.
As the country continues pursuing socio-economic transformation, stakeholders argue that strengthening grassroots structures and communication networks will remain key to ensuring development reaches communities.
