Tanzanian golfer Iddy Madina is determined to catch up to Uganda’s Peace Kabasweka, who leads the Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open championship at Kitante by four strokes. Madina, who has already claimed victories at the Kenya, Ghana, and Dar-es-Salam Ladies Opens, in addition to a second-place finish in the Tanzania Ladies Open, made a significant move in the second round, reducing Kabasweka’s five-stroke overnight lead to just one stroke with a two-over 74.
In the second round, Kabasweka maintained her lead despite a three-over 75, managing only one birdie on the par-3 hole-9 while facing four bogeys. Madina, on the other hand, recorded one birdie on the par-5 hole-8 but was disappointed by bogeys on holes 4, 5, and 18.
Madina expressed her determination to improve in the final round, aiming for more pars and birdies to secure victory. She also praised the competition and the supportive fans, emphasizing her desire to further refine her game to compete against strong players.
Defending champion Martha Babirye displayed improvement, shooting a 74 in the second round, reducing her stroke deficit. Although winning again might be a challenging task, she remains optimistic.
In the ladies’ Bronze category, Rachael Namuwenge leads with 66 nett going into the final round of the 36-hole competition. Joseph Bagabo and Anita Siwale lead the seniors’ competitions.
