Mbale | UGANDA – A dispute over the ownership of a marble mineral deposit has erupted among the three brothers behind Jowas Uganda Limited.
The conflict, which has now escalated to court, stems from allegations that Mr. Robert Andrew Wasike used underhanded methods to deregister the company and form a new entity with his children excluding his two brothers.
Mr. Wasike is accused of scanning the signatures of his two brothers and claiming they had agreed to transfer the company’s powers and shares solely to him. This development is being contested by the other directors.
Mr. Charles Wasike, one of the company’s directors, expressed shock at the move and described his brother’s actions as “unrealistic.”
“He never consulted us. He did all this with his children, but we shall resolve the matter in court. Since the case is now before the courts, we can’t say much,” he said.
This publication has learned that this is not the first time Mr. Robert Andrew Wasike has been involved in controversy. Last year, he was reportedly among individuals arrested at Mulago National Referral Hospital after failing to install dobby machines, amid allegations of embezzlement.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Robert Wasike were unsuccessful, as his known phone numbers were switched off.
However, documents seen by this publication show that Mr. Wasike has been summoned by the police to record a statement. He is likely to face charges of forgery and a civil suit lodged by his two brothers.
Mr. Wasike is known to be involved in various business activities, including the supply of building materials. He has recently set up a stone crushing plant in Mukono, where he produces crushed stone powder used by several paint manufacturing companies in Kampala and Jinja.
