Elders in Puranga Sub-county have blessed Engineer Raymond Luwita as he starts his journey to become the next Member of Parliament for Aruu County on the NRM party ticket. The blessing event took place on Thursday, 24th April 2025, with elders aged above 50 years attending to show their support for the new candidate who promises change and development.
During the meeting organized by the Wanghoo Elders Association, Mary Abalo, a mother and member of the group, said past and current leaders have failed to bring important services, especially better roads and transport. She said some leaders promised to bring lorries four years ago, but nothing has been done.

Jackson Okullu, another elder from the Wanghoo Association, said the community needs honest leaders who will not use money to buy votes. He asked the people to choose leaders who care about their problems. Okullu thanked Luwita for consulting the elders and said it showed that he respects their advice and the culture of the community.
Mathew Oboke, the elder councillor representing older persons in the Puranga Sub-county council, said the elders should remember the many problems they still face. He noted that some places have stayed without good roads for over 20 years, and the last major road work was done during the time of the late Bosco Oryem, the former Kitgum District Chairperson. He asked the elders to push for change and guide the younger people to work for a better future. He then blessed Eng. Luwita and wished him well in his political journey.

Speaking to the elders, Eng. Raymond Luwita thanked them for their support. He said he decided to contest on the NRM ticket after working for more than 20 years as a district engineer. Luwita said being part of the ruling party would help him lobby for more services for Aruu County.
He promised to run a peaceful campaign without insulting his opponents. Instead, he said he would focus on telling people his plans and ideas.
Luwita also asked the community to continue supporting President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government in the coming elections, saying that stability and development depend on it. He thanked the NRM for supporting the multiparty system, which he said helps democracy grow in the country.
