Mob Violence Claims Life of 34-Year-Old Man in Dokolo

DOKOLO, Uganda – The North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, issued a statement on Wednesday evening regarding a mob murder incident in Dokolo district.

According to Okema, the territorial police in Dokolo have registered a case of murder by mob that occurred on October 2, 2024, around 9:40 AM in Akwayo village, Alyejuk parish, Agwata Sub-County. The report was filed by Otim Peter Ayo, a 72-year-old LCII chairman from the same village.

The deceased was identified as Otim Calvin, a 34-year-old resident of Alworo village, Alworo parish, Amach Sub-County in Lira district.

Okema explained that on October 2, around 9:45 AM, the OC of Adwoki Police Post received information from the LCII chairman about someone being beaten by an unidentified group in Akwayo village. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer found the victim severely injured but still alive. The injured man was transported to a nearby health center for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased’s body was subsequently taken to Dokolo HC1V mortuary for a postmortem.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the circumstances surrounding the beating remain unclear.

Police expressed deep sadness over the continued incidents of vigilantism, despite repeated appeals to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
