KABALE, Uganda — Police in Kabale District are investigating the circumstances surrounding two separate suspected suicide incidents that occurred on the morning of March 16, 2026.
The first incident involved Michael Twesigomwe, who was found hanging from an avocado tree at Rwamucumo Cell, Nyakasharara Parish in Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
According to preliminary police reports, Twesigomwe is believed to have taken his life using a rope sometime between March 15 and March 16, although the exact time of the incident has not yet been established.
Police said Twesigomwe, a resident of Makanga Cell in Kabale Municipality, had been working as a shamba boy at the home where the incident occurred. He was discovered hanging from a tree within his employer’s compound. The motive behind the incident remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate case, Benson Twinomuhangi was found dead after allegedly hanging himself from a eucalyptus tree in a garden at Kyambinga Village, Ntarabana Parish in Buhara Sub-county, also in Kabale District.
Police say Twinomuhangi was discovered hanging using a shirt. Preliminary information suggests that he had been experiencing intermittent mental health challenges.
Officers from Uganda Police Force at Central Police Station Kabale visited both scenes, documented evidence, and transported the bodies for postmortem examinations as part of the investigations.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, urged members of the public to seek help from relevant authorities or community leaders when facing personal challenges rather than resorting to self-harm.
Police said inquiries into both incidents are still ongoing.
