Ryeru High School has held a ceremony to celebrate its outstanding performance in the 2025 UCE and UACE examinations, with education and religious leaders using the occasion to caution students against early marriages and drug abuse.

The celebrations took place at the school campus in Rutoto Sub-county, Rubirizi District, bringing together students, parents, teachers, and local leaders to recognize academic achievement and promote discipline among learners.

Delivering a sermon during the event, Ven. Canon Rev. Yorokamu Tayebwa, Archdeacon of Ndekye in West Ankole Diocese, warned that early marriages can severely disrupt a child’s development and limit future opportunities. He emphasized that such practices not only affect individual learners but may also have long-term consequences for future generations.

Rev. Tayebwa urged students to remain focused on their education and avoid behaviors that could jeopardize their ambitions.

The school’s director, Haji Munir Kayemba, commended both students and teachers for their dedication, attributing the strong academic performance to teamwork, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He encouraged learners to avoid excessive sleeping while at school and instead dedicate more time to their studies.

Haji Kayemba revealed that the school rewarded outstanding performance with over 50 million Ugandan shillings in cash incentives for both students and teachers, as part of efforts to motivate continued academic excellence. He further advised students to remain disciplined, hardworking, and confident in their abilities to achieve their goals.

Highlighting the results, headteacher Madam Biira Jetrace noted that two students scored 20 points at A-Level, while one candidate scored 19 points. The rest of the candidates attained between 10 and 17 points. Top-performing students were awarded cash prizes, with those scoring 20 points receiving one million shillings each, while high-performing O-Level candidates received 500,000 shillings.

She described the results as a reflection of the school’s commitment to professionalism, resilience, and nurturing young minds. Madam Jetrace also expressed gratitude to parents for their continued support, emphasizing that education is a shared responsibility between schools and families.

Meanwhile, Rubirizi Deputy District Education Officer, Mr. Tumusiime Geoffrey, urged parents to prioritize education, warning that neglecting their children’s academic needs could hinder family development. He described education as a long-term investment that contributes to economic stability and social progress.

Mr. Geoffrey also advised students to maintain discipline, respect their teachers, and remain focused on their studies as key pillars for success.

The event concluded with renewed commitment from the school administration to continue providing quality education, nurturing talent, and promoting strong values among learners.
