KAMPALA, Uganda — The official inauguration of Uganda’s 12th Parliament for the 2026–2031 term has commenced, with newly elected Members of Parliament taking oath in a constitutional process that formally ushers them into office amid growing public anticipation and optimism across the country.
Among the legislators sworn in was Mafabi Asha Nabulo, who officially assumed office as the Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District during a ceremony held at Parliament of Uganda.
The oath-taking exercise, presided over by parliamentary authorities, is a constitutional requirement that enables elected leaders to officially begin their legislative duties before the House resumes full parliamentary business.
Moments after Nabulo’s swearing-in, excitement erupted among her supporters from Sironko District, who gathered outside Parliament in celebration of their newly elected representative. Jubilant residents waved placards, danced to vibrant Kadodi rhythms, and sang songs praising Nabulo, with many describing her victory and official entry into Parliament as a new chapter for the district.
Speaking to journalists shortly after taking oath, Nabulo thanked the people of Sironko for entrusting her with the responsibility of representing them in Parliament.
“I sincerely thank the people of Sironko District for the trust and confidence they placed in me. This is a responsibility I will serve with commitment and dedication,” she said.
The legislator reaffirmed her commitment to addressing key challenges affecting residents, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups across the district.
Nabulo emphasized that her priority will be ensuring the concerns of Sironko residents are effectively represented at the national level.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure the voices of our people are heard and their concerns addressed at the national level,” she added.
She further pledged to champion affirmative action initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening community empowerment, and promoting inclusive development throughout the district.
Nabulo also declared support for government development programmes under Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s “Kisanja No Sleep” agenda, which focuses on wealth creation, improved service delivery, and socio-economic transformation.
The swearing-in exercise for other elected legislators is expected to continue in the coming days before the 12th Parliament fully transitions into regular legislative business.
