Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, the State Minister for National Guidance, has called on the youth to focus on hard work if they are to be relevant to their families and nation. He was also concerned about the deteriorating morals among the youth, which he attributed to drug and alcohol abuse, lack of education, and ignorance of God.
Speaking to the media shortly after addressing hundreds of youth at their International Youth Day celebration in Kasese Municipality, Hon. Kabbyanga reminded the young people that “no pain, no gain.” He urged them to shy away from bad peer groups and engage in productive work instead of spending their time and money on luxuries.
The Kasese district chairperson, Mr. Eriphaz Muhindi, echoed Hon. Kabbyanga’s sentiments and called for a mindset change among the youth. He said that many young people are misguided by their family backgrounds and lack of opportunities. He urged them to acquire skills that will make them economically viable and independent.
Ms. Bridget Masika, a student at Liberty College in Kasese Municipality, also spoke to the youth and encouraged them to embrace hands-on skills. She said that these skills would help them to achieve their dreams.
His Worship Chance Kahindo, the Kasese Municipal Mayor, concluded by urging the youth to be disciplined and hardworking. He said that these qualities are essential for success in life.
