KCCA FC Supporters Injured in Road Crash Returning from Yumbe Match

A road accident has left a number of KCCA FC fans injured as they travelled back from Midigo in Yumbe District, where they had gone to support the club in a Uganda Premier League fixture against Calvary FC.

The supporters were aboard a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBR 640K, after making the long journey to West Nile to cheer on their team. Their trip ended in tragedy following the accident, which occurred after KCCA FC’s 1-0 loss to Calvary FC. Lawrence Olaboro scored the lone goal that handed the hosts victory.

KCCA FC confirmed the incident in an official statement, revealing that the injured supporters are currently receiving medical treatment.

“This morning, we received news of a road accident involving our fans travelling back from Midigo, Yumbe. The incident occurred as our supporters were making their way home from West Nile, where they had gone to support KCCA FC in a Uganda Premier League game against Calvary FC,” the club said.

The Kampala-based side expressed solidarity with the affected fans, praising their unwavering dedication and sacrifice in travelling across the country to support the team.

“We recognise their passion that took them across the country to stand by us, and today, we stand firmly by you,” the statement read.

KCCA FC also extended wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured supporters and assured them that the club is closely monitoring the situation.

“We continue to monitor the situation and we wish you a swift and full recovery. We look forward to seeing you back in the stands, healthy and cheering, very soon,” the club added.

Authorities are yet to release a detailed report on the cause of the accident.
