Kole District, Uganda — Hon. Peter Ocen Akalo, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Kole South Constituency in the 11th Parliament, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing community health and welfare, pledging to continue supporting healthcare initiatives even after leaving office.
With a strong presence in the community and a track record of impactful service delivery in Kole South County, Hon. Akalo has established himself as one of Lango’s respected and effective leaders, earning both trust and admiration from his constituents.
A member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Hon. Akalo recently lost his parliamentary seat to MP-elect Okot Boniface. Despite this, he remains widely appreciated across Kole South, where residents commend his integrity, hands-on leadership, and consistent development efforts.
In an interview on Wednesday morning, Hon. Akalo expressed gratitude to the people of Kole South for their continued support during his tenure.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the people have shown me during my time in the 11th Parliament. Although I will not be part of the 12th Parliament, I will continue with some of my projects,” he said. “This is not the end—it is a renewed call to serve. I promise to remain close to the people, especially the vulnerable, and to continue supporting healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.”
One of his most notable contributions has been in improving healthcare services in the constituency. He donated three fully equipped ambulances to support maternal health and emergency referrals across Kole South.
The ambulances, provided under his “Health Sector Improvement” program, aim to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and ensure timely access to health facilities.
In addition, Hon. Akalo distributed essential supplies, including mama kits and other health items, to expectant mothers across the constituency. These efforts have earned him widespread praise and strengthened his reputation as a people-centered leader.
“Before Hon. Akalo provided these ambulances, many mothers lost their lives on the way to hospitals,” said Grace Adong, a resident of Bala Sub-county. “Today, patients can be transported safely, and more mothers are delivering in health facilities. He listens and acts—this is true leadership.”
Beyond healthcare, Hon. Akalo is recognized for his active involvement in community development and sports promotion. He is known for his inclusive leadership style, engaging people from all walks of life without discrimination.
“He is always available,” said Nelson Opio from Akalo Town Council. “Whether it is a school needing roofing, a church, a farmer seeking support, or a sports team requiring kits, Hon. Akalo responds. He treats everyone with respect.”
Despite losing the election, Hon. Akalo continues to support the people of his constituency, demonstrating his commitment to service beyond political office.
As he concludes his term in Parliament, he has called for increased investment in rural healthcare infrastructure and urged stakeholders to partner in expanding emergency medical services in the Lango sub-region.
Residents remain optimistic about his continued involvement in community development.
“We didn’t just vote for a politician, we voted for a servant,” said Akello Betty, a resident of Akalo Sub-county. “With leaders like Hon. Akalo, the future of Kole South remains bright, even as we will miss him in the 12th Parliament.”
