OBONGI, UGANDA – The construction of Itula Seed Secondary School in Itula Subcounty, Obongi District, has officially commenced and is already 15% complete, marking a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to improve education in the region.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, praised the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for its commitment to promoting education by allocating over 6 billion shillings to construct two Seed Secondary Schools in the district within two years.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the Itula Seed Secondary School site in Legu Parish, Hashaka revealed that the two schools, Gopele Seed Secondary School in Gimara Subcounty and Itula Seed Secondary School in Itula Subcounty, each received over 3 billion shillings for construction.
“This funding demonstrates the NRM government’s dedication to fulfilling its 2021–2026 manifesto by securing the future of Obongians through quality education,” Hashaka said.
He noted that Obongi District, with five subcounties and one town council, now boasts four government-funded secondary schools and 24 Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools. Additionally, plans are underway to secure funding for Seed Secondary Schools in Ewafa Subcounty and Obongi Town Council, ensuring that all areas benefit from improved access to education.
Hashaka was accompanied by Nyango Ernest, the District Community Development Officer, and Fadul Rashid from the Chief Administrative Officer’s (CAO) office. The team, led by the site engineer and Clerk of Works, assessed the progress and affirmed the government’s commitment to timely project completion.
The development has been met with optimism from local leaders and residents, who see it as a crucial step toward reducing education gaps and empowering the youth in Obongi District.
“With these new schools, our children will no longer have to travel long distances for secondary education. This is a victory for our communities,” Hashaka added.
As construction continues, the district remains hopeful that the projects will be completed on schedule, further advancing Uganda’s educational goals under the NRM leadership.
Hashaka appealed to parents in Obongi to take advantage of the government-funded schools in the district by enrolling their children for a brighter future.
