The Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among has demonstrated humility and servant-led leadership by opting to travel by road instead of using the presidential helicopter that had been availed to her to travel to Omukama Oyo Nyimba’s coronation celebrations.
Taking to her social media, the Speaker revealed that she made the choice deliberately after learning of the dire state of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road. The road, which is a major route connecting central and western Uganda, is riddled with potholes, narrow sections, and uneven surfaces, making it risky and uncomfortable for motorists.
“When His Excellency appointed me to represent him, he offered me his helicopter to facilitate my travel here. However, after learning about the poor condition of the Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road, I decided to travel by road to see the situation for myself,” the Speaker explained.
She noted that the experience gave her first-hand understanding of the daily struggles faced by road users. She immediately directed the Minister of Finance, Hon Matia Kasaija who was in attendance, to secure funds for the rehabilitation works within two weeks. “This road urgently needs rehabilitation, and we cannot afford further delay,” she emphasized.
Leaders and locals commended the Speaker for choosing to endure the same difficulties they face every day instead of flying over them. Many described her action as a sign of humility and genuine concern for ordinary citizens.
The Mityana–Mubende–Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road is an important economic lifeline, facilitating trade and transport between central and western Uganda. Its current poor state has slowed traffic, increased accidents, and raised transport costs for farmers and traders.
By choosing to travel by road and swiftly instructing for funds to be secured, the Speaker reaffirmed her commitment to servant leadership—walking with the people, listening to their challenges, and acting promptly to find solutions.
