Uganda Ramps Up Namboole Renovations Ahead of AFCON 2027

KAMPALA, Uganda – Uganda has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Phase three renovations of Mandela National Stadium now in full swing.

The transformation project is being spearheaded by the Government of Uganda through the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Engineering Brigade, marking a major milestone in the country’s readiness to host Africa’s biggest football tournament.

Under the ongoing works, the stadium’s seating capacity will increase to over 45,000 seats, positioning Namboole as a modern, continental-standard sports facility capable of hosting high-profile international matches.

The upgrade will enhance both capacity and comfort, with new seating installations designed to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements.

The renovations also include upgraded dressing rooms built to international standards, modernized media facilities to accommodate global broadcasters, refurbished VIP and hospitality sections, as well as improved fan access points and enhanced security systems.

The improvements are aimed at delivering a world-class match-day experience for players, officials, media, and fans alike.

Uganda will co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania, marking the first time the prestigious tournament will be staged in the East African region.

The significant infrastructure investments across the three nations signal a historic moment for regional football, with Kampala set to host key matches at the revamped Mandela National Stadium.

As construction progresses, optimism continues to grow that Uganda will not only meet but exceed CAF standards, cementing its place on the continental football stage.
