The clergy of Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church Otucopi in Soroti City East, Soroti district, has conveyed a stern message in their New Year’s address, declaring that they are unwilling to minister to individuals who resort to begging and avoid hard work.

Pastor Francis Mpande of PAG Otucopi emphasized in his New Year’s message that the church does not want to cater to beggars, asserting that working hard is encouraged in the Bible, referencing Matthew 25:21-28 and drawing a parallel to the industriousness of Abraham.

Mpande dismissed the notion that spending long hours reading the Bible would lead to financial prosperity, asserting that hard work is the key to improvement in life. He emphasized that no one is inherently poor by design, and prosperity comes through diligent efforts.

Highlighting the inconsistency of some individuals who have the capacity to work but choose to beg, Mpande emphasized that God rewards hard work and discouraged Christians from seeking quick riches.

Rev. Stephen Omoko of PAG Otucopi echoed the importance of hard work and humility, emphasizing that God calls Christians to strive for success. He urged Christians to focus on hard work rather than resorting to prayer and fasting without corresponding efforts.

Rev. Omoko revealed the church’s plan to provide entrepreneurial skills to Christians in the coming year. He also warned of a church-led operation to discipline those found still residing in their parents’ houses, emphasizing the need for independence and personal responsibility.
