Traffic Police Unveils Comprehensive Traffic Flow Plan Ahead of NAM and G77 + China Summits

As Uganda prepares to host the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77 plus China Summits from January 15-23, the Police Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has released a detailed traffic flow plan to ensure the smooth execution of the events. Authorities are urging travelers, especially those with flights at Entebbe Airport, to plan their journeys meticulously to prevent potential inconveniences caused by delays.

The main routes for the summits are identified as the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway leading to Speke Resort Munyonyo. This corridor spans from Entebbe Airport through Kajjansi interchange. Michael Kananura from the Police Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety emphasized that this route would be tightly regulated, incorporating diversions and temporary holding of traffic to accommodate both local and international flights accessing Kampala or the airport.

Expected diversions have been strategically outlined to manage traffic effectively during the summit period. At Mpala, traffic will be diverted to Entebbe Highway, while at Kisubi, diversion will route traffic to Nakawuka. The Kajjansi flyover will serve as a diversion point, directing traffic through Kajjansi flyover to Lubowa and then to Zana.

Key diversion points include Serena Kigo traffic lights, Mutungo, Kitiko traffic lights, and Busabala traffic lights for vehicles along the Munyonyo Spur. Security checkpoints will be established to screen vehicles, with diversions at Munyonyo Roundabout directing motorists to Salaama Road and Buziga. Motorists approaching Munyonyo and Gaba Road will be diverted to UCB Road for access to Buziga-Lukuli.

At Northern Bypass, diversions will be implemented at Busega Flyover and Slip Road to restrict vehicles from accessing the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway. Additional diversions along the Northern Bypass will be at Sentemma, Nansana, Bwaise, Kalerwe, Kyebando, and Kisaasi interchange, flyover, and Slip roads.

The plan stipulates that motorcycles will not be allowed on the summit routes, and traffic police will manage traffic flow at road junctions, access roads, and regulate movement according to the movement of the delegates. Boda boda stages along the summit routes and hotels hosting visiting heads of state will be relocated and absorbed into other stages during the summit period.

In closing, Kananura emphasized the importance of travelers planning their journeys in advance, especially those with flights at Entebbe International Airport, to avoid delays.
