The government is ramping up efforts to put Uganda on the international map by urging its missions abroad to focus on promoting the country’s products, services, and tourism attractions.

Ramathan Ngoobi, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting missions abroad in this endeavor. He stressed the need for clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to secure markets for Ugandan products, attract quality investors, and showcase Uganda’s tourism potential.

“All these efforts are geared towards achieving a tenfold economic growth for Uganda,” Ngoobi emphasized.

Ngoobi made these remarks during the commencement of a four-day Joint Regional Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Retreat held at Serena Hotel Kigo on June 11, 2024.

Odrek Rwabwogo, the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), underscored the pivotal role of PACEID in advancing Uganda’s exports.

He highlighted the importance of positioning Uganda as a competitive player in the global market to enhance foreign earnings.

“Through a focus on market research, export infrastructure, standards, and export financing, PACEID aims to increase Uganda’s exports by an additional $6 billion by 2028. Value addition is a key strategy for Ugandan exports to gain access to foreign markets,” Rwabwogo elaborated.

The retreat has convened key stakeholders from various sectors to brainstorm strategies for boosting regional trade and fostering economic growth.

Established in March 2022 by President Yoweri Museveni, PACEID operates under the coordination of the Office of the President.
