(Agago) – General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, has condemned the tragic shooting that resulted in the deaths of three civilians in Agago District. The incident occurred on Monday in Ngora East village, Ngora parish, Paimol sub-county, and involved Private Ameny Bonny, who also injured two others.
General Kainerugaba’s message was delivered by Brigadier General Keith Katungi, Commander of the 5 Infantry Division, during the burial of the victims: Apio Sunday, aged 21, Akidi Santino, aged 47, and Ajalo Florence, aged 15. The General expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and extended financial support to the families of the deceased, providing Shillings 5 million to each family and Shillings 3 million to those who were injured.
In addition to the financial support, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is covering the burial expenses and medical treatment for the injured civilians at Dr. Ambrossoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo, Agago District. Brigadier General Katungi expressed his condolences to the families and assured them that Private Ameny would face legal action, with a trial to be conducted by the Court Martial in Paimol sub-county.
Beatrice Akello, the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring and Agago Woman Member of Parliament, served as the chief mourner at the ceremony. She encouraged parents to guide their daughters on managing domestic challenges, regardless of age or marital status.
Local Council Chairman of Paimol sub-county, Mr. Ngomkura Richard, expressed gratitude for the support provided by the UPDF during this difficult time. He urged community members to denounce the incident as an individual act and called for empathy and generosity within the community. He also highlighted the importance of leadership responsibility, urging leaders to bear the burden of such tragedies like the UPDF has done.
The burial ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Division Commander, Colonel David Opero, the Resident District Commissioner of Agago, Mr. Kidega James Nabison, the Chairman LC5 Agago, cultural leaders, and various community leaders.
