As the political landscape in Uganda heats up in preparation for the 2026 general elections, numerous individuals are stepping forward to announce their ambitions for various political positions. Among them is James Byenjeru Tukahirwa Hunter, who is seeking the Kajara County Parliamentary Seat.

Well-known in Ntungamo District for his numerous outreach initiatives, Byenjeru undoubtedly possesses the potential to transform the Constituency. He has engaged in several local projects aimed at assisting different groups of people across the various subcounties of Kajara Constituency, primarily focused on eradicating the widespread poverty affecting many households in the region.

He will run on the NRM ticket and shares the NRM’s vision for poverty elimination. Having previously worked in the Transport Sector of the Ministry of Health, James Byenjeru Tukahirwa Hunter has consistently encouraged locals to actively engage in government initiatives like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).

He has also been a strong advocate for the concept of unity, locally referred to as Ebibina, emphasizing that such collaboration is essential for empowering resource-limited individuals to generate wealth more effortlessly. Byenjeru has offered logistical and financial support to women’s groups, youth organizations, churches, religious institutions, schools, and other entities in Kajara.

Among the projects benefiting from his support are Kibatsi Church of Uganda and Nyabushenyi Church of Uganda in Nyabushenyi sub-county, Nyakafunjo Church of Uganda and Nyamukana Mosque in Nyamukana Town Council, Bwongyera Church of Uganda, Kagugu Catholic Church, and Kashariro Catholic Church located in Bwongyera sub-county, along with Kagamba Catholic Church in Kibatsi sub-county and Nyabihoko Catholic Church in Nyabihoko sub-county, among others.

In addition to religious organizations, Byenjeru has also lent his assistance to educational institutions such as Kitojo Primary School, Mahwa Primary School, and Kemishego Primary School in Nyamukana Town Council, Bwongyera Girl’s Secondary School, and Kitojo Primary School in Bwongyera sub-county, as well as Kitunga Secondary School, Kagamba Secondary School in Kagamba Town Council, and Kibatsi High School in Kibatsi sub-county, among numerous others.

Recognized for his generosity, Byenjeru has personally invested his own resources to uplift the lives of his constituents. A notable example is his financial backing of the Nyabihoko SACCO, which he has supported for a considerable period.

Born in 1965 in Kyaruganga Cell located in Nyamukana Town within Bwongyera Sub County, Ntungamo District, Byenjeru is genuinely regarded as a person of the people, as reflected in how the locals speak of him. Having experience in various government agencies, he is equipped to elevate his community and serve in the national legislature.

With numerous government projects having stalled, Byenjeru’s knowledge, advocacy skills, and sense of national pride will undoubtedly benefit service delivery for Kajara County. Currently, the area is represented by Michael Tumuzigu, who has declared he will not seek re-election in 2026. Tumuzigu has held the parliamentary seat since 2016 after succeeding Stephen Tashobya.

Despite this, several projects in the area, including the Kahama water scheme in Nyabushenyi Subcounty and the electricity extension intended to serve Kiyaga, Kirama, Zaituni in Nyabihoko Sub-county, as well as parts of Nyabushenyi sub-county involved in the same initiative, have all encountered setbacks.

Thus, driven by a commitment to transform and uplift his region, James Byenjeru Tukahirwa Hunter is poised to promote both economic and social advancement in his constituency.
