In May, I wrote an article requesting the Commissioner General of Prisons, Afande Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, to instruct his team to create enough space in prisons as they wait for “customers,” mainly from Parliament. Some Ugandans thought I was just being comical, but the reality is now unfolding.
I am still calling upon the Prisons Service to create enough space because there is still a big number of “customers” who will be in their facilities. Those that have been received are just gate openers, but more are coming—expect them in hundreds.
Looking at the ongoing investigations that have been launched by our Supreme PLU leader and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the IGG on corruption in Parliament, many people, including parliamentary clerks, former commissioners of Parliament, Bank of Uganda officials, URA officials, and former and current ministers who were affiliated with the former Speaker of Parliament, will not escape. This will now require the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, to direct his team to create enough rooms that will help accommodate these visitors who will soon be sent to him.
Under the determination of Gen Muhoozi, no one will miss stepping into prisons as long as records indicate they touched stolen money.
So Afande Johnson Byabashaija, make sure there is enough food also, and once in a while, they can be served greens like what they used to eat in the parliamentary canteen.
This time around, Ugandans are fed up with corrupt officials, and they would be glad to see any senior official being locked up in prison.
Afande Muhoozi, apana rudi nyuma, soga mbele na operation yako. Uganda must be clean. End.
