AMOLATAR, Uganda – In a bid to heal longstanding divisions and unlock the region’s development potential, Amolatar District is set to host a high-profile prayer breakfast on 7th April at Amolatar Boma Ground, with the Bishop of Lango Diocese, Rt Rev Prof. Alfred Olwa, officiating.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with media on Saturday, Deputy RDC Obonyo Magwar confirmed that the event will attract a number of high-profile dignitaries, including members of the Secretariat.
Themed “Lord Heal Our Land” — drawn from 2 Chronicles 7:14 — the event seeks to foster unity among residents of a district that officials acknowledge is rich in fertile land and natural resources yet remains lagging in development due to disunity.
“The district realised that despite vast opportunities, disunity has held us back,” Obonyo Magwar said. “This prayer breakfast is to forge a way forward for peace, unity, and development in Amolatar.”
All major religious establishments — including the Church of Uganda (COU), Roman Catholic, Islamic, and the National Fellowship of Born Again churches — are involved in the event.
As part of the programme, special prayers will be offered for specific groups, including the Red Devo football team, which recently lost their funds while returning from Kampala after a match with Express FC.
The climax of the activities will be on 7th April at 9 am, officiated by Bishop Olwa, whom the district hopes will be a catalyst for lasting peace and development.
The prayer breakfast will also feature the final of a post-primary secondary school football tournament between Amolatar SS and Alemere SS, to be flagged off by Bishop Olwa.
In addition, young men who have worked hard in innovation will be recognised, and the district plans to initiate sporting activities as a tool for mobilisation and unity.
The inclusion of sporting activities is not a new phenomenon, according to district officials, noting that it echoes strategies from the Office of the President shortly before the 2026 campaign period.
The Office of the President in Amolatar aims to bring people together under the NRM party following longstanding internal party disputes that officials believe led to the party’s loss in the 2026 elections. The reconciliation move is spearheaded by Deputy RDC Obonyo Magwar.
