LIRA CITY – TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2025 – Motorists and transport operators in Lira City and the wider Lango sub-region have reason to celebrate as the Uganda Driver Licensing System (UDLS) mobile team begins a week-long outreach campaign today.
The special exercise, which will run from November 10th to 17th, 2025, is designed to bring essential driving license services directly to the doorsteps of residents, eliminating the need for long and costly trips to permanent licensing centers.
The initiative has been warmly welcomed by the Lira to Amolatar Taxi Drivers and Conductors Association, whose leadership is actively mobilizing members to take full advantage of the opportunity.
The UDLS mobile team is equipped to handle a wide range of services, making it a comprehensive solution for many drivers. Residents can approach the team for:
- · Application for new driving licenses.
- · Renewal of expired driving licenses.
- · Extension of driving license classes (upgrades).
- · Recovery of lost or damaged driving licenses.
Mr. Kizito Okao, the Director of Lira to Amolatar Taxi Drivers and Conductors Association, strongly encouraged all members and the general public to utilize the service.
“I advise and encourage those who want to get new driving licenses, those who want to renew expired ones, extend their classes, or recover lost licenses to embrace this opportunity and make use of it for their own benefit,” Okao stated.
Beyond the convenience, the exercise is also seen as a crucial step in formalizing the transport sector in the region. By making it easier for drivers to obtain and regularize their documents, authorities hope to improve overall compliance with traffic regulations.
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Okao also seized the moment to issue a timely reminder on road safety. “I also advise all road users to always follow traffic rules and guidelines to curb the rate of road accidents,” he added, linking proper documentation to responsible driving.
The presence of the UDLS mobile team in Lira City is expected to significantly reduce the backlog of pending license applications and regularize many drivers who have been operating with expired or invalid documents. For the bustling transport community in Lira, this week represents a critical chance to get their papers in order, ensuring they can operate legally and safely on the roads.
