Former MP Cecilia Ogwal’s Burial Set for January 27th, 2024

The funeral programme for the late Cecilia Ogwal, former Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, has been released, according to an announcement from Parliament on Friday. The funeral proceedings are set to take place with a series of events leading up to her burial on Saturday, January 27th, 2024.

The body of Cecilia Ogwal is scheduled to arrive from India on Sunday, January 21, 2023, and will be transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala before returning to the funeral home. On Monday, the body will leave the funeral home for Parliament, then proceed to her home in Bugolobi, Kampala, for a night vigil.




The funeral procession continues on Tuesday with the body heading to Dokolo district via Soroti district for a vigil at Adok county. On Thursday, the body will be taken to the district headquarters and a service will be held at St Augustine Cathedral, Bar Ogole. The next stop is St Paul Church Alito Archdeaconry in Kole district.




The late Cecilia Ogwal’s body will then be taken to her home in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito town council in Kole district for a vigil. A church service in her memory and body viewing will precede the burial set for Saturday, January 27th, 2024, in the same location.




Cecilia Ogwal, who passed away at the age of 77, had a longstanding political career, starting as the UPC secretary general in 1985. She later represented the people of Lango in the Constituent Assembly until her demise on Thursday. Although not officially confirmed by the health ministry, sources from Parliament suggest that she succumbed to cancer during her stay in India. The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, officially announced her passing on Thursday.
