Mukono District LCV Chairperson Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa is reportedly banking on divine intervention as his political fortunes dwindle ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Fresh reports indicate that the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party that carried him to power in 2021, has officially sidelined him and endorsed former MP Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga as its flagbearer for the Mukono LCV seat.

This political shake-up follows mounting concerns over Rev. Bakaluba’s loyalty to the opposition party. Insiders claim he sparked internal tensions within NUP after appointing a deputy from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) – a move that raised eyebrows about his true allegiance. Party loyalists reportedly viewed this as a betrayal and a sign that Bakaluba may have been quietly working with the ruling establishment.

The endorsement of Ssenyonga was confirmed by NUP Deputy President for Buganda, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, during a rally held at Nakifuma playground on Saturday. Kivumbi disclosed that convincing Ssenyonga to step aside in the Mukono South MP race in favor of Robert Maseruka wasn’t easy, but it was part of a bigger strategy to strengthen NUP’s hold in Buganda by fielding trusted candidates in key positions.

As Bakaluba faces political isolation, sources close to him say he has turned to prayer and the Catholic rosary, hoping for a miracle that might resurrect his chances.

With Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga now taking center stage and NUP’s backing behind him, the once-powerful LCV Chairperson may be staring at the end of his political road – unless divine intervention says otherwise.
